When and Where?

What is it?

An experiential careers showcase where young people will be encouraged to experience an industry sector in some way and ask questions about various career pathways.

Who is it aimed at?

All young people 14+ years old and their parents.

Why come?

For young people to gain impartial, varied exposure to as many careers and employers as possible – so that they may be inspired, become better informed, and ultimately make better decisions about the next stage of their education or career.

Speakers:

For business it is an opportunity to raise awareness of careers in their business and pass on enthusiasm for their industry.

There is an exciting line-up of speakers from businesses including Intel, John Lewis, Bucks UTC, Sky, Endemol Shine Group, Talentspotters, Caremark, Enterprise Lab (Rockstar Group), Oomph Creative Agency, Sytel. Chiltern Chamber is helping sponsor one of the star attractions, Brendan Walker, “the world’s first Thrill Engineer”.

Exhibition Space:

In addition to the above identified growth areas, it is important that often overlooked careers such as sales, construction and accountancy are also represented. Students will be encouraged to visit stands/industry sectors that interest them. Time at each stand will vary, but considering they will be completing a task/activity, time on a stand could be anything between 5-15 minutess depending on level of interest.

Challenges:

Local companies who are running challenges with schools will be welcome to hold their ‘final’ event at the Bucks Skills Show. For example, a local 3D printing company is running a challenge for school students to design and print a Scalextric car which will then be raced and judged at the final. A couple of other businesses are also planning some exciting activities, and these activities will be a great way for us to get schools, students and press interest at the event.
