Chamber Special Recognition Award: Vincent Crompton

Vincent Crompton receiving Chamber Special Recognition AwardFollowing the official business of the Chamber AGM on May 20th, the Chamber made its Special Recognition Award to Vince Crompton.

The previous month, Vince had also been made the first-ever Honorary Freeman of the Town of Chesham. This had been prompted by a letter of nomination from Chiltern Chamber, endorsed by the Mayor, Cllr Fayyaz. You can read an account of the Chesham Town Council award here.

The Chamber’s letter listed many of Vince’s achievements, and his selfless commitment to the communities of Chesham. Most notably, it highlighted his work as the Chairman of Chesham in Bloom since 2012: under his stewardship, Chesham won the highly coveted and prestigious regional Gold Award from the Royal Horticultural Society. It also alluded to his personal efforts planting hanging baskets and weeding across town; being a founder member of the Chesham Allotments Group, serving as its Chairman for several years, and acting as the membership secretary of the Chesham Horticultural Society. As well as the environmental aspects to Mr Crompton’s community work, the Chamber also highlighted his work for older people including donating and cooking lunch at Christmas for the elderly at Trinity Baptist Church; being Trustee and Vice-Chairman at the McMinn Centre and visiting and cooking for housebound older persons across town.

Having received his award from Chamber Vice-Chairman, Vince then entertained the meeting with a speech, among other things explaining how he has engaged successfully with young people in Chesham. It was abundantly clear that, for Vince at least, keeping busy and engaging with the community has been a recipe for keeping young – he is truly an inspiration to all!
